James E. Hartley

Dr. James E. Hartley is Professor and Chair of Economics at Mount Holyoke College, where he teaches Macroeconomic Theory, Money and Banking, and Principles of Economics among other economics courses. Dr. Hartley earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California Davis, where he was also a Lecturer in Economics. He also was a Visiting Professor at two different universities in Kolkata, India: the Indian Statistical Institute, and the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management. He is the author of The Representative Agent in Macroeconomics, and the editor of two books: Real Business Cycles: A Reader, (with Kevin D. Hoover and Kevin D. Salyer), and Mary Lyon: Documents and Writings. Dr. Hartley has also written numerous journal articles and is a frequent lecturer at conferences and seminars, including several Liberty Fund conferences.
